At the intersection of fine woodworking and architecture lies Casa Del Buster, the new abode for one of the cutest furry friends out there! This doghouse commission is an architectural miniature more than a model or a simple doghouse — functional doors, architectural details, and proper detailing for the weather all contribute to make this project a success. The client requested a doghouse that took inspiration from their home, and I think we nailed it with this one!

One of the important moments was transporting it from Spokane to Seattle. The photographs of this stage and the process work will come later, but in short I had to design the doghouse as two separate pieces that would fit into my sedan, drive them across the state, and then assemble and finish the piece. Ensuring each piece was very structurally stable was important, as I did not want any of the architectural details to be damaged in transit. Luckily, no issues!

The French doors were carefully designed to resemble the existing home when closed, but open to accommodate the dog. They fit snugly with a friction fit so that no hardware beyond the tiny doorknob is required to secure them or open them. The roof also features a continuous piano hinge so that the interior is easy to decorate and clean.
A huge thanks to the lovely clients for this commission, which was a welcome challenge to improve my woodworking skills for outdoor items!
